There are just a few days left. The first big race on the sporting calendar for the marathon runner Yolanda Gutiérrez and Maeloc is round the corner and it just happens to be one of the most important sporting events in the world: the great New York Marathon .
On 1 November over 50,000 people will put on their trainers to celebrate a great sporting event through the streets of the Big Apple, and Yolanda will be with them, running through such emblematic places such as Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Fifth Avenue until the finish line in Central Park. The asphalt and the cold will be the main factors in this race although, to get through it all, Yolanda will have the support over 2 million people who will cheer everyone on from the sides. She will, evidently, have the impressive sights of Manhattan to help her along, too.
Currently, Yolanda is working hard on her training at the Coruña Sport Centre gym, where she goes several days a week to get her muscles in shape. The New York Marathon will serve to put all the intensive training she has done in recent months to the test, as she faces the 42 kilometre race for the very first time this season. On this occasion, it’s not about reaching her time, but about putting her strength to the test with regards to the real test in February, at the Spanish Marathon Championship to be held in Seville. That is when she will have to finish under 2 hours 33 minutes in order to go onto her great objective: the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Over 110,000 people register every year for the New York marathon although less than half actually get to participate. That is why Yolanda knows that she has a unique opportunity in front of her and wants to enjoy it running in the popular instead of the elite group.
