This morning, the award for February’s Player of the Month from the Real Club Celta de Vigo went to Sergio Alvarez, and was presented by Daniel Filgueira, manager of the Tapería La Alcoba, in Vigo (Pontevedra).
Sergio Álvarez stated that he felt “very grateful to Celta fans who chose me as the player of the month. The fact that it’s them who choose the player that receives the award makes it very special. Apart from dedicating this award to Celta fans, I want to dedicate it to my team- mates. Our individual successes belong to the team, and vice-versa”.
The recognition as Estrella Galicia Player of the Month is the result of the votes cast by Celta supporters on social media in the last few days. On this occasion a total of 3,488 supporters participated, voting for their favourite player, and placing Sergio Alvarez in first place with 61% of the votes, followed by Jonny Castro with 25% and the Argentinian, Tucu, with 14% of the votes.
This award reaches the Celta player at a key moment of the season, during the week of the Galician Derby, “O Noso Derbi” (“Our Derby”), that brings the two First Division Galician teams face to face. In addition, this award is presented to the team a day before it travels to Russia for the UEFA away match against FC Krasnodar, although they will play with advantage thanks to their win in the first leg.

Our best ‘Cerveza de Bodega’ client in February from Santiago de Compostela will be in charge of handing the award to the player from Obradoiro, the same week that the team plays Real Madrid.
