The young inventor, Rodrigo García, known as “the Spanish Da Vinci”, and considered one of the most innovative designers in Spain, will be in A Coruña to take part in the 12 Miradas :: Riverside project.
On Friday 16 February, at 8:30pm, at Galería Vilaseco the 12 Miradas of Rodrigo García, one of Spain’s most innovative designers will take place. This event is part of the cultural action programme, 12 Miradas :: Riverside, directed by Carlos Quintáns and supported by Corporación Hijos de Rivera and Laboratorio Creativo Vilaseco.
From the very start of his Architecture studies at ETSAM in Madrid, Rodrigo García surprised his classmates and teachers with his unorthodox ideas aimed at reducing the impact that urbanism has on the landscape. This originality would be recognized in with his multi-award winning end of degree project, a 12-floor building with expandable structures based on fundamental geometrical concepts designed to be set up in 3 hours, or with his vacuum based structures.
He continued his academic career at the Umeå Institute of Design~Umeå University, in Sweden, and the Royal College of Art in London, where he set up the company from where he designs his own projects, among which Ooho! «Gotella» stands out, an ecological water bottle made from kelp seaweed extract.
At just 33, he has taken part in a number of international architectural and industrial design projects, with his work being exhibited at important venues and artistic events such as the Cité de l’Architecture in París or the Architecture Bienal de Venecia. He has even caught the eye of one of the largest technological multinationals, Apple.
This creator’s philosophy is to reinvent traditional designs, making them simpler, environmentally friendly and useful for the third world. In order to do so, he tries to look for similarities with nature that can somehow mimic the ecosystem.
