LUFFA-ECOCELTA

After a great start, the Mercado de la Cosecha starts its second week of activity in Vigo, reorganising the look, contents and activities. From Monday 25 to Saturday 30 May, two new exemplary initiatives from the countryside will be the protagonists who will share their story and products. On this occasion, it will be the turn of two very innovative firms, with very different and special products; Ecocelta that will bring its earthworm and ecological composts and will show visitors, every day, how to make earthworm compost at home, and Ibérica de Esponjas that will present its plant sponges such as Luffa Cylindrica.

Opening times are Monday to Saturday, 11am-3pm, and 5-9pm. In addition to the central initiatives, this month all visitors to the pop-up store can find Pazo de Vilane’s eggs and marmalades, organic yoghurts and cheeses from Casa Grande de Xanceda, Maeloc ciders, mariñeiras biscuits by Daveiga, clogs by Elena Ferro, bags by Idoia Cuesta, and Cortes de Muar cheeses.

During the six days that Ibérica de Esponjas and Ecocelta are the protagonists at the Mercado de la Cosecha Pop-up Store the following activities will also take place:

Wednesday 27 May, 7.30pm. “El futuro a través de las esponjas vegetales” (“The future through plant sponges”)

Thursday 28 May, 7.30pm. Home-made earthworm compost

Friday 29 May, 7.30pm. “El nuevo rural: origen y recorrido de una idea” (“The new rural areas: origin and background of an idea”)

Saturday 30 May, 5.30pm. Children’s workshop. “What can you do with a Luffa?”

About Ecocelta

0Z8A45300Z8A4523

Dedicated to the production and sale of organic composts, this Galician SME based in Ponteareas (Pontevedra) recycles organic waste through composting and earthworm composting, using the latter to transform biological waste into compost. All of this under the premise that led it to its birth in 2002, sustainable management and nature in balance.

At the pop-up store, visitors will be able to see for themselves the earthworm’s recycling work, the process of natural cleansing in water (in a small lake of macrophytic plants), and even learn to create their own domestic earthworm composting system with which to fertilise a vegetable patch or an urban garden from their own waste.

About Ibérica de Esponjas

Mercado de la Cosecha

After years of research in order to obtain the adequate genetic variety, the company now cultivates plant sponges such as Luffa Cylindrica. Their philosophy of respecting the earth has led them to produce without any kind of chemical product or anything that could harm the earth, and to reuse natural waste that they produce. The plant fibre of the Luffa Cylindrica has great potential, still largely untapped, in the field of biomaterials.
