Bodegon Familia -Nueva imagen Estrella Galicia

Estrella Galicia launches its new image and more sustainable packaging. It has updated its brand image and introduces important innovations in its packaging with the aim of reducing its carbon footprint and increasing the circularity of materials, as part of its commitment to positive impact and sustainability.

The new design, which will be present on all formats of the Estrella Galicia family from June, is based on a review of the current brand image (2006) in which it recovers the original design of the star present on its first label.

A new image through which the brand seeks to differentiate itself and surprise its consumers, as well as strengthen its artisan character in its resistance against the standardization of beer. But above all, with this design Estrella Galicia seeks not only to update itself, but to  be more respectful with the environment. Therefore, the brand has introduced important innovations in its packaging that allow it to substantially reduce its carbon footprint and be more sustainable.

Among the different measures adopted are the reduction of 12% in the glass of its bottles, avoiding the generation of almost 10,000 tons of waste in its production and the replacement of the paper of all its labels for white paper certified with the FSC seal. In addition, all the Estrella Galicia cans are made of aluminum, an infinitely recyclable metal, which also has the Meta Recycles Forever seal.

The brand, which has never before used plastic rings for the grouping of cans, uses 50% recycled plastic in the shrink-wrap of its packs and in the 24-can tray format and allocates 100% of the cardboard waste generated in its factory to produce its own boxes and trays. With all this, Hijos de Rivera estimates to reduce its carbon footprint by 9,000 tons of CO2.

The new image and packaging of the brand has been announced through a new communication campaign: “Estrella Galicia cada día más sostenible” (“Estrella Galicia every day more sustainable”) that will be present digitally and externally in Spain during the coming weeks.

Mónica Vizcaíno, Global Brand Director of Hijos de Rivera, points out that “At Estrella Galicia we are nonconformist by nature, and we strive to brew the best beer possible not only inside, but also outside. That is why all areas of the company have worked hard to improve the use of all the materials with which we present our beers, while recovering historical icons of the brand in terms of design. Cleaner and more attractive, we hope you like it.”

Laura Piñeiro, Brand Manager of Estrella Galicia states that the firm, “which has never before used plastic rings for the grouping of cans, allocates 100% of the cardboard waste generated in its factory to produce its own boxes and trays. With all this, Hijos de Rivera estimates to reduce its carbon footprint by 9,000 tons of CO2.”

Commitment to sustainability

This initiative is part of an ambitious plan by Hijos de Rivera focused on being more sustainable every day and generating positive impact, acting in all areas and activities that can be improved with a spirit of constant effort and assuming it as a transverse project that does not end. Through a coordinated strategy that involves all the people and departments of the company, Hijos de Rivera has been focusing for several years on the care of the planet and people, on working together with its allies and on protecting its origin.

In March 2021, after investing great effort and resources, the company reached the milestone of achieving carbon neutrality in its brewery and other facilities. Along with this, in April this year, the Corporación Hijos de Rivera group joined the United Nations Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world that has been promoting the commitment of the private sector to ten Universally Accepted Principles in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment and fight against corruption since 2000.
