A pyramid project that will have 6 teams and up to 14 riders in the different categories

The riders and teams that make up the sports project that, since 2015, has joined Estrella Galicia 0,0, Monlau Repsol Technical School and Marc VDS Racing, met on Monday at the Jarama Circuit for the official presentation of the plans of this Spanish-Belgian alliance, which next season will have 6 teams in different categories and up to 14 riders on the track.

The legendary Jarama Circuit was the track that saw the emergence of Spanish motorcycling on an international level. The activity continues on the Madrid track four decades after its inauguration and, after twenty years since its last Motorcycling World Championship, it has once again been the perfect setting to reveal the huge and passionate sports project that Estrella Galicia 0,0 has prepared for the 2018 season.

After the surprising and comic arrival of Álex Márquez and Joan Mir to the Jarama Circuit in a sidecar, the pit lane of the Madrid track has once again been the centre of activity. The different Estrella Galicia 0,0 teams have taken up four adjacent garages in which the press has been able to discover, first-hand, the plans for each structure as well as interview the protagonists on and off the track.

Yet another year, the commitment made by our brand covers the three categories of the MotoGP World Championship, and also includes the Moto3 Junior Championship, the European Talent Cup and the RFME Spanish Championship.

In the MotoGP World Championship, Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 – Marc VDS will have two newcomers with unbeatable credentials. The current Moto2 world champion, the Italian-Brazilian Franco Morbidelli, will debut in the top category on the superlative Honda RC213V. On an identical bike, his new teammate will be none other than the experienced Thomas Lüthi. The Swiss rider arrives at MotoGP after being Morbidelli’s toughest rival last year in the fight for the Moto2 title.

The greatest Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 – Marc VDS stake in Moto2 is a rider that could be called  “one of ours”. With Estrella Galicia 0,0, Álex Márquez conquered the Moto3 title in 2014 and last year was one of the protagonists of the intermediate category. As the 2018 season begins, Alex, once again on the competition Kalex, sees the title as one of the most exciting objectives. Joan Mir is another newcomer with an impeccable background that appears in the Estrella Galicia 0,0 garage. The rider from Mallorca, the current Moto3 champion, jumps up a category to continue with the excellent progress made until now, making him one of the rookies that could attract the most attention during the season.

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Moto3 will once again compete in all the world championships with two promising riders. After winning three great prizes and finishing third in last year’s championship, Arón Canet will fight his third full season fully committed to reach the top.

On the other side of the garage will be another newcomer with great impact. The rider from Madrid, Alonso López, as a result of his career within the pyramid project Estrella Galicia 0,0, will have his first full season in the World Championship.

The Estrella Galicia 0,0 representation at the FIM CEV Repsol includes two of its teams in two different categories. The first, the Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 will have three riders in the Moto3 Junior Championship. Jeremy Alcoba and Sergio García will repeat after their great results last year. The training aspect of the project has once again attracted foreign talent, with the British rider Charlie Nesbitt completing the list of riders.

In the European Talent Cup there will be three riders that will make up the Talent Team Estrella Galicia 0,0. Julián Giral, Daniel Holgado and Jose Antonio Rueda will compete on the track this year, in their second step towards their search for a future in the motorcycling world.

During the initial stage of the Monlau Repsol Technical School, the base category, the School Team Monlau Repsol will include Diogo Moreira and Adrián Cruces in the Moto4 category of the RFME Spanish World Championship.

Ignacio Rivera / CEO Hijos de Rivera SAU:

“Yet another year we continue to build a different story with the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0. We are extremely proud to be part of this unique family in the World Championships, which offers young riders all the tools so as to be able to develop their talent at the highest level. Passion, talent, and chasing dreams are the values that define us when it comes to creating beer and, quite clearly, the marriage with the motorcycling world is fantastic. The clearest proof of this are the titles won by the team, that have consolidated the prestige of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 in the MotoGP paddock.”

Marc Van der Straten / Owner of Marc VDS: Racing team:

“I think that this project, which we began three years ago with Estrella Galicia 0,0 and Monlau Repsol Technical School, has shown to be incredibly successful. In 2017, we saw the first world champion of our structure, Franco Morbidelli, and now we are starting a new season that promises to be as successful as the last. Franco goes up to MotoGP within our structure, along with Tom Lüthi, the rider that fought so hard to win the title last year, just like his teammate. In Moto2 we have an incredibly strong team with a newcomer, the Moto3 champion, Joan Mir, along with Álex Marquez –one of the favourites to win the title in his fourth season with the team. We can’t wait for the first race in Qatar.”

Emilio Alzamora / Team Principal Team Estrella Galicia 0,0:

“Three years ago, we presented a project where we joined two great structures, Monlau Repsol Technical School and Marc VDS Racing to create a unique project, a pyramid structure in which our main dream was to create a structure to help both young talents and established riders. Every year that goes by is a reaffirmation of the potential that this project has, with which the aim is always to boost talent. This year, we have young riders joining us and we offer our resources so they can continue to progress, as is the case with Alonso López who, after competing in the RFME Spanish Speed Championship and the FIM CEV Championship in our teams, has taken the leap to the World Championship where he will have Arón Canet as team mate, in Team Estrella Galicia 0,0. With the high level and experience that our technical team has, we can offer them the best. In a project like ours, the final objectives cannot be other than the training of our riders and the fight to obtain the best results.”

Michael Bartholemy / Team Principal Marc VDS Racing:

“It is really exciting to be here today, as I was one of the first to be part of this project that covers all the categories from base to top. Our sports project has demonstrated to be a successful model. We have brought riders from the RFME Spanish Speed Championship to the MotoGP World Championship. Franco Morbidelli has reached MotoGP after winning the Moto2 title with us. It has taken some time to fully form this project, but I feel that now we have an excellent journey ahead. It is also incredibly gratifying to see the new  riders arrive.”
