Mundo HR @en

Baleària and Cabreiroá have turned 7.1 tonnes of plastic into tables, chairs and benches for the terraces of the ferries Abel Matutes and Martín i Soler.

Baleària and Cabreiroá, who share their commitment to sustainability, have joined forces to launch this circular economy and environmental awareness project.

Baleària and Cabreiroá  have recycled more than 7,000 kg of plastic to create tables, chairs and benches for the outdoor terraces of some ships of this shipping company, such as the  Abel Matutes andmore recently the Martín i Soler,  which also sail with natural gas, a cleaner fuel.

“Antes de ser mesa, fui botella” (“Before being a table, I was a bottle.”) With this message, this circular economy initiative is presented on the terrace furniture. The use of this recycled material with the appearance of wood is prepared to last 30 years, and has also meant ceasing to emit 13,700 kg of CO2, according to data from Ecoembes. Hijos de Rivera provides Baleària with the bottles of water to consume on board. Once these containers are used, a specialized supplier recycles them and transforms them into furniture.

Baleària and Cabreiroá share common values in their commitment to sustainability, and both firms have become a fundamental axis of their strategy placing themselves at the forefront of their respective sectors for their efforts to be more eco-efficient and generate a positive impact on their environment.

This project is an example of collaboration between two committed brands that have joined forces to take an important step forward in terms of circularity and environmental awareness.

Hipólito Rodríguez, Director of Onboard Services of Baleària, explains: “The initial experience with the ferry Abel Matutes encouraged us to extend it to other ships, since it fits very well with our values and commitment to the environment”.

Emiliano Barelli, Hijos de Rivera SAU Industrial Director of Water and Environmental Sustainability, points out that “we use the concepts of ecodesign for the development of the packaging of our products, which has allowed recycling and reusing their materials in a circular way in this initiative between Baleària and Cabreiroá”.

Cabreiroá, at the forefront of the sector in its commitment to sustainability

The Cabreiroá spring has for years implemented a new business model that is more sustainable and responsible. To this end, it has been gradually transforming its organization, focusing all its efforts on finding the best tools to gain efficiency, improve the circularity of its packaging and reduce the environmental footprint of its activity.

Its Proyecto Origen  is a firm commitment to sustainability that reaffirms the focus of its business towards the objective of generating a positive impact on its environment with measures such as the carbon neutrality of its facilities or its commitment that 100% of Cabreiroá’s packaging will be eco-packages before the end of the year, positioning itself as the brand with the greatest variety of sustainable and circular formats in the market.

In addition, it has announced important agreements with renowned environmental NGOs such as SEO Birdlife  and  WWF in the area of cleaning the natural environment and reforestation.
