1906 Jazz Season brings Scandinavian jazz group, Atomic, to Lugo and A Coruña

Experiences

After playing at Jimmy Jazz in Valencia, the Swedish group will be in charge of closing the A Coruña Season, in Jazz Filloa, and opening the Lugo Season on Friday 11, at Clavicémbalo.

Atomic

The ice has melted with the arrival of Atomic. Formed in 2000, the Swedish/Norwegian quintet smashed all the stereotypes about Scandinavian jazz with their free-jazz.  Atomic responded to the languid and melancholic atmospheres so sought after by their fellow countrymen by setting their sights on the free and contractual Afro-american tradition, bringing to the foreground once again procedures of which there have only been remnants left over from the seventies. Names such as Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton  served as stimuli to fly a flag that not only has been kept for a decade but has also managed to have more followers thanks to explosive live music in which absolute freedom is mixed in with the strongest discipline. Like an army chosen to simultaneously surprise us with poetry and a union of ranks, Atomic has known how to build bridges across the Atlantic to join forces with musicians like Ken Vandermark, creating a powerful link and an international current confirming the relevance and long life of free-jazz.

`There´s a whole in  the mountains` (2013), the latest recording within a rich discography, insists on the same celebration without forgetting that there is a way to compose which owes its tradition to classical music and in which there is a clear intention to tell stories.

If you still have reservations when faced with such different proposal it’s time to leave them at home. Rest assured that after listening to Atomic live, you’ll never be the same again.
