The Victoria Tournament-Moncho Rivera Memorial Trophy kicks off on Saturday at the Victor Fernandez (Leyma) ground. The championship, which pays tribute to Ramon Rivera Riguera, once again hosts the classic charity tournament in support of La Cocina Economica, with the different categories of this Coruña club playing against other teams from Galicia.
Moncho Rivera, part of the third generation of the Rivera family, was one of the founders of the Victoria club and promoted this tournament which is fifteen years old, but which had disappeared for almost thirty years. In 2009, the Club wanted to recognise the work carried out by its promoter in supporting grass roots sport, naming the trophy after him, and regaining the essence of the early years.
The Memorial Trophy will begin with the semi-finals of the under 16 and under 14 age groups on Saturday, and will continue until Wednesday the 11th of September, when the last matches will be held at the Rodrigo Garcia Vizoso football ground (Grela 1) in which, for the first time, a round-robin will take place between the senior Victoria Football Club team, Deportivo B (Fabril) and the Rapido de Bouzas. At the end of the match, the CEO of Hijos de Rivera SAU, Ignacio Rivera, will hand out the prizes to the winners.
