In A Coruña the presentation of the eighth edition of the 1906 Jazz Season took place, a programme which has grown in recent years to become an unmissable date for lovers of this musical genre. Juan Paz, 1906 Brand Manager, pointed out that it is the public that keeps the Season going year after year, which is an added responsibility for this initiative. In 2014 over 12,000 people attended the concerts within this musical event all over Spain, making practically all the concerts sell outs.
Our 1906 beer presents three intense months with 50 concerts of the best jazz in some of the most emblematic clubs and venues in Spain. The 1906 Jazz Season will be present in 12 cities and on 15 stages with renowned names such Richard Bona, Dave Douglas, Chano Domínguez, Christian McBride, Antonio Serrano, Xan Campos and Pablo Seoane, along with many others.
Carlos López, music coordinator of the 1906 Jazz Season, has highlighted “the eclectic nature, within this musical style, of the programme”. In his own words, he has wanted to combine the presence of the great international names and the support of Spanish, and especially Galician artists.
Temples of jazz
Clubs have been, and still are, the perfect setting to enjoy jazz as they allow the artist to be close to the audience, in a way that is impossible in larger venues. That is why the 1906 Jazz Season continues to take place on those stages that maintain the essence of this music genre. Hence, in Galicia, we can find the Season in A Coruña (Jazz Filloa), Santiago (Dado Dada), Vigo (Xancarajazz), Lugo (Clavicémbalo), Ourense (Café Latino) and Ferrol (Bla Bla Café).
The music programme will once again reach cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, Murcia and Oviedo. In addition to this, there will be concerts on the stages of Teatro Principal in Santiago and Teatro Lara in Madrid.
Start and Finish
The 1906 Jazz Season will kick off on 22 March with a concert by Richard Bona Group at the Teatro Principal in Santiago de Compostela and its grand finale will be a Jazz Marathon open to the general public in Plaza de la Quintana (Santiago de Compostela) on June 19 (19/06).
Round about jazz and 1906
As a novelty, 1906 has also presented a book, “Round about jazz and 1906”, which gathers in it the experiences of the previous seven editions of the Season through the voices of their protagonists. Thoughts, interviews, and opinions from great jazz artists appear collectively in this carefully designed publication which will be on sale soon. In the words of Quinito Mourelle, the coordinator of the book, “it is a work of retrospection that aims to offer a general picture of what has happened in the last seven years of jazz within the Season in the words of the artists, venue owners, organisers, and so on.”
