The XVth edition of the Victoria Tournament-Moncho Rivera Memorial Trophy finishes on Wednesday 11th at the Rodrigo Garcia Vizoso ground (Grela 1). The championship, which pays tribute to Ramon Rivera Riguera, will once again host the last game in the classic charity tournament in support of La Cocina Economica after four days during which 14 matches have been played by the different categories of the Coruña club against other teams from Galicia.
Moncho Rivera, part of the third generation of the Rivera family, was one of the founders of the Victoria club and promoted this tournament which is fifteen years old, but which had disappeared for almost thirty years. In 2009, the Club wanted to recognise the work carried out by its promoter in supporting grass roots sport, naming the trophy after him, and regaining the essence of the early years, with the support of Hijos de Rivera.
The XVth edition of the Ramon Moncho Rivera Memorial started on Saturday 31st August, when the semi-finals of the under-16 and under-14 age groups began at the Victorio Fernandez Alonso (Leyma) ground. On this day, four matches were held between Victoria CF, SCDR Caranza, Racing de Ferrol, Santiago de Compostela CF and CD Lugo. The first matches of Juvenil Nacional between Victoria CF, SCD Residencia and Ural CF were held on Friday 6th of September at the Rodrigo Garcia Vizoso (Grela 1).
The Victoria Tournament includes the participation of teams from the Women’s category, as is the case of SD Orzan, who faced Victoria at the Victor Fernandez Alonso ground (Leyma) on the 7th of September, resulting in a win for Victoria. On the same day, the first finals of the under-14s and under-16s championships were held, with a win for Victoria and Bergantiños, respectively. On Sunday, the last matches in the Juvenil Nacional category were held, once again with a win for the host team, in this case against SCD Residencia (2-1).
The final day will be on Wednesday 11th of September, starting at 6pm with an exhibition match played by the Victoria football schools at the Rodrigo Garcia Vizoso ground (Grela 1). Following that, the much awaited round-robin between will be held between senior Victoria Football Club team, Deportivo B (Fabril) and Rapido de Bouzas. At the end of the match, the CEO of Hijos de Rivera SAU, Ignacio Rivera Quintana, will hand out the prizes to the winners.
