Giste Cervecera, a company owned 100% by the Hijos de Rivera group, was created in 2001 with the aim of managing and leading the expansion and positioning project for the brands “La Cervecería” and “Estrella de Galicia”, while never losing sight of the reference that marks the brewery’s origin, and which seeks to bring together premises with the latest designs and excellent gastronomic quality.
With forty years of history, the beer hall in A Coruña is the soul and origin of this business and it meant the start of a project that grew in the 90’s with the creation of the beer halls “Estrella de Galicia” in Vigo, Madrid-La Moraleja and Madrid-Pozuelo in 2010. Four premises run by Giste where the Company’s complete portfolio is available.
The first beer hall, in Cuatro Caminos (A Coruña), was created in the mid 70’s in conjunction with the building of the new brewery located in A Grela industrial estate.
Thanks to the third generation of the Rivera family, the space that was the former factory was turned into a beer hall, which nowadays serves around two million beers a year and has become the beer hall that serves the most beers in Spain.
“La Cervecería” in Cuatro Caminos is a landmark in the city of A Coruña. A must for all visitors and for coruñeses themselves, who get together to enjoy all the Hijos de Rivera products; including Cerveza de Bodega (Cellar Beer), which arrives straight from the brewery to the premises via an innovative system of tanks.
This system was developed in 2013-2014, during the latest refurbishment of this beer hall. It enabled an increase in tank capacity from 8,000 litres to 9,000 litres of beer, allowing for a guaranteed weekly rotation of 10,000 litres of beer. Over the last few years, there has been a firm commitment to the remodeling of the whole Beer hall, which has been a faithful witness to the company’s history during the last forty years.
As for its distribution, the Beer hall has two spaces. A large lower area, on the ground floor, where you can sample tapas accompanied by our beer, and another area on the second floor, which is more formal, with private areas, an extensive menu and a special restaurant service. In both areas, our customers can enjoy a high quality menu with a wide range of typical meals from the Galician gastronomy.
Estrella de Galicia Beer Hall in Vigo
Located in the central Plaza de Compostela, the Vigo beer hall opened its doors in the 90’s.
During the recent refurbishment in 2015, this Beer Hall underwent substantial decorative changes and has introduced an innovative culinary selection of typical Galician meals with a modern twist.
The Vigo beer hall now has a large space consisting of two dining rooms and two terraces, one outdoor and a new indoor one. In the latter, our vertical beer tanks have been put on display, an innovative cutting edge project for the Company. The tanks have a black design with the Cerveza de Bodega (Cellar Beer) image. An area with tall tables has also been created, where our customers can enjoy a relaxed meal accompanied by our products, and a corner with a 1906 image, especially designed for the space, has also been created.
Estrella de Galicia Beer Halls in Madrid
In 2002 our La Moraleja Beer Hall was inaugurated. This establishment became a reference for our Company’s expansion and the launch of our brands in the capital.
Located on the Avenida Europa, La Moraleja beer hall has also undergone significant changes this year, as the establishment’s capacity has been increased thanks to the acquisition of the adjoining premises. Accordingly, we took advantage of the occasion to update the decoration, create new consumer areas and update the existing ones.
In this respect, a totally new outdoor terrace has been created and the previous one has been turned into an indoor terrace. A new dining area has also been created, with movable panels, which allow for the creation of different reserved spaces in accordance with the customers’ needs. In addition, the bar area has been aesthetically remodelled using industrial furnishings made of materials such as metal and wood, which dominate in this type of decor.
These spaces try to respond to the different types of customers our La Moraleja beer hall attracts and the different types of consumption moments which exist, which range from a business meal, to a relaxed or family meal at the weekend. For this reason, we have chosen decoration which combines different styles and adapts to different moments.
The Pozuelo Beer Hall opened its doors in 2010. Just like La Moraleja, the Pozuelo beer hall is situated on the Avenida de Europa, but in a more residential area. This means that numerous families come to enjoy our premises and weekends are when most of the public visit. Inside there is an outstanding large two-level terrace, a very pleasant space where one can enjoy an after-work drink any day of the week, hence making it an option for other types of consumer who decide to visit our beer hall.
The culinary selection in both of the Madrid premises combines typical Galician meals with those of other Spanish regions. Always respecting traditions, but with a fresh and modern twist.
New challenges
Giste Brewery is embarking on a new challenge to finish off this year with the opening of new premises in the centre of Madrid: a beer hall on the Gran Vía.
