Almost 300 people participated in the first edition of the Harvest Market Roundtables at the Teatro Principal in Santiago de Compostela on the 3rd of September. The initiative, sponsored by R, GADISA and Hijos de Rivera, was created in order to highlight the values of the Galician countryside nowadays, which has a lot to contribute towards the design of a sustainable and competitive Galicia.
Through short presentations, a group of people with concerns and successful initiatives linked to the essence of Galicia, shared their experiences and how they overcame difficulties in the first edition of the Roundtables, which have been recorded and are now on internet so as to reach a wider audience.
This year, the first protagonists have been: the growing force of Xosé Luis (Arqueixal) when he explains how proud he is to come from a village; the dry humour with which Marco and Iago (Abastos 2.0) give us food for thought; the sweetness of Maria (Olei); the humour of Belen Matilla (LUTEGA), who is farming Galician hops once again; Sergio (Ecocelta), the Argentinian based in Ponteareas who never expected so much red tape to breed earthworms; the self-assured manner in which Antia, aged 17, stands on the stage in order to defend her passion for the rural areas of modern times; the alternative to traditional carpentry and the crisis that Ana Teijeiro (Buxaina) faced when dealing with board games; and the friendliness and inner poise with which Marta Alvarez tells her inspiring story (Granxa Maruxa)
After the great success of this first edition, the Harvest Market Roundtables will continue working to bring us initiatives and projects closely linked to the socioeconomic development of rural areas which, day after day, make a great contribution towards a sustainable and competitive Galicia.
