A Noroeste Estrella Galicia Festival press conference was held this morning, during which the philosophy behind the festival and all the news for its 31st edition, which will be held from 8 – 13 August in A Coruña, were presented.
At the presentation of the Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia, held at midday this morning in Capitán Troncoso street in A Coruña, were the city’s mayor, Xulio Ferreiro, the Culture, Sport and Education councillor, José Manuel Sande and our colleague, Santiago Miguélez, marketing manager at Hijos de Rivera.
With reference to music news, the organization of the Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia confirmed this morning its third headliner, the Scottish band The Jesus And Mary Chain, who will play on Riazor beach on Saturday 12 August.
This band is one of the most influential 80’s alternative rock bands, and will be in A Coruña playing tracks from their new album, Damage and Joy, as well as a range of tracks that turned them into one of the noise pop pioneers.
In addition to The Jesus And Mary Chain, practically all the line-up for the festival has been confirmed and features names such as Kaiser Chiefs, Surfin’ Bichos, Swans, Rodrigo Leao, Indomable, Jules & The Wolf, Cygne, Naranja Imaginario, Captains, The Allnight Workers, The Preachers, Lisa & The Lips, Mielitza, Emilio José, The Soul Jacket, Isaac Peces, Proyecto Moucho, García MC, Quique Escamilla, Xoán Curial and Eladio y los Seres Queridos.
With regards to the philosophy behind this 31st edition, the proposal is six days of music from morning until night throughout the city so as to create the “Experiencia Noroeste” (the “Northeast Experience”). With this novelty, we want the public to rediscover an open city where music fills every corner, and rediscover its capacity to enjoy the cultural experiences that the Noroeste proposes, from sunrise to sunset, beyond its concerts.
“Sesiones Matinales”. Music in the street starting at aperitif time.
The Noroeste Estrella Galicia widens the festival experience and brings its start time forward to the middle of the day from Thursday to Saturday. Artists and bands from the Galician and Spanish independent music scene will fill the city with music, bringing rhythm to the aperitif. It’s a series of concerts organized by the non-profit cultural association Desconcierto Cultural.
“Noroeste+”. The festival continues in the city’s venues.
When the applause on the beach, in the squares, in the streets, and in the city’s parks come to an end, Coruña’s night venues open their doors to visitors and resident DJs, playing the best Spanish and international pop and rock music, from classics to contemporary hits.
“Selección Noroeste”. To enjoy the festival from theatre seats.
This is a new series in which the North American experiential rock band, Swans, and the Portuguese composer and musician Rodrigo Leao will participate. They will take the stage of the Rosalía and Colón theatres, respectively, on the 8th and 9th of August at 8.30pm, offering a different experience within the festival’s ambitious line-up.
