The goalkeeper from La Alcarria, Juan Carlos Martín, beat Jaime Romero and Cristian Herrera in number of votes by fans on the Club’s social networks.
This morning, the January Estrella Galicia Player award, which rewards the best player from the Lugo team every month, was handed over at the Restaurante Fonte do Rei.
Juan Carlos Martín, received the highest number of votes on this occasion and has therefore been awarded the Estrella Galicia Player of the Month for January. He beat Jaime Romero and Cristian Herrera in a month that has left an incredible memory for football fans: the goal from a distance of over 70 metres scored against the Sporting de Gijón on 20 January at the Anxo Carro stadium.
José Antonio Núñez, owner of the Restaurante Fonte do Rei, handed over the award to Juan Carlos, during the fifth edition of this initiative that allows the CD Lugo fans, via a popular vote on the Club’s social media sites, to choose who they consider to be the best player that month. During the event, the goalkeeper gave the Restaurante Fonte do Rei owner a shirt signed by the team, as a reward for being the restaurant of the month.
Juan Carlos was extremely happy to receive the award for the first time: “It is a privilege and fantastic luck to be given this award. I am very happy and I want to thank my teammates, the coaches and everyone who has supported us. This is also their reward.”
The player from La Alcarria was delighted by the fans’ support reflected by this award: “I feel very loved, I am very happy and delighted to have won the award, and to feel that people are happy with me.”
He also spoke, light-heartedly, about his wish to receive the award in the future without needing to score a goal: “I doubt I will score many more goals, so I hope that if they give me another prize it will be for making a couple of good saves.”
