The latest edition of the race supported by our Volunteering group and organized by the NGO A.I.R.E and the Banco de Alimentos Rías Altas (Rias Altas Food Bank) beat participation records with 1,007 participants.
Over 1,000 runners took part in the third edition of the “5KM Solidarios” charity race, supported by our Volunteering team, which was held in A Coruña for the very first time. The race managed to raise €6,800 which will be given to the Rias Altas Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos Rías Altas) in A Coruña.
The charity event organised by the NGO A.I.R.E and the Rias Altas Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos Rías Altas) filled the Agrela industrial area with activity on the morning of Sunday 19 November for a good cause.
It was a complete success with participation numbers exceeding expectations, and with all kinds of runners taking part. Runners, families with children on bikes and the younger members of the family in their pushchairs, and even pets were among the participants in the five-kilometre race. There was a packed starting line at our Estrella Galicia brewery and a great number of participants also took part in a Zumba master class once the race was over.
The change in location (the race had been previously held in Arteixo) helped to increase the number of participants and, therefore, the amount of money raised. In total, there were 1,007 runners and €6,800 collected from entry fees and donations, which will be immensely useful for the Rías Altas Food Bank to continue the work it carries out. In addition to this, on the actual day of the race, over 230 kilos of food were collected, which was also appreciated by the charity. The business world also lent its support to this good cause. Thanks to collaborating companies, runners took away not only a T-shirt and the race bib but also a bag with refreshments and small gifts, donated by different companies from the area. Participants could also enjoy an Estrella Galicia 0,0 and coffee once all the activity was over.
In addition to our brands Estrella Galicia and Cabreiroá, the following entities also collaborated; Frutas Prado, Frutas Esther, Cafés Siboney, Sanbrandán (Ipasa), Marineda City, Vegalsa-Eroski, Gadisa, Corgal Automóviles and Mieles Anta. Even audio-visual companies and event organisers such as CEGA Audiovisuales, AS Eventos and the Club del Mar de San Amaro took part.
This is a great charity event that is gaining followers year after year, and slowly becoming consolidated on the regional sporting calendar.
