The creator of this project is Matthew Barnes (UK), who mixes hip-hop inspired rhythms, atmospheric samples and oneiric guitars, evoking the ancestral via the modern. His first album, “Engravings” (2013), catapulted him to the top of “bedroom sound”. A new type of deep and recognisable trip-hop with subversive drones, complex guitars, deep bass and slamming percussion.

Created in 1973, their sound was influenced by British groups from the 60’s, like The Beatles, TheHollies or The Who, and by pioneering bands of the 70’s New Wave such as The Raspberries, Talking Heads or Ramones. That is, an unceasing search for catchy choruses and fast rhythms that led them to build and interpret immortal hymns, turning them into one of the best power pop bands in recent history.

Vega has won over the public and critics with her fifth studio record. So much so that “Wolverines” has been nominated for best Pop/Rock album at the 14th Latin Grammy Awards, yet another nomination in the same category as her previous album “La Cuenta Atrás”, in 2012. After visiting Colombia, Mexico and the USA, Vega returns to Spain with her band to continue with the presentation of the new album. SON Estrella Galicia brings you the chance to see one of the best female composers and singers on the current Spanish scene live in concert.
On this album, the singer from Cordoba has had the collaboration of great names like Raphael, with whom she duets on the track that carries the album’s name, “Wolverines”; with Budiño on “Martes”, and Arturo Sandoval on “El Funeral”. This fifth studio album was recorded in Los Angeles (USA), and co-produced by Sebastian Krys and Vega herself.
“everything she has done previously has been so good that my expectations for the new record were extremely high. High they might have been, but she delivered”. TOP 50 / Los mejores singles de 2013 por P. Delgado (para LAREPUTADA.COM).
“… Vega is one of the best Spanish singers who best tells things in the Spanish language (the deep feeling that rounds off her voice is a key element). In her most recent record, Wolverines, the singer from Cordoba shows signs of being the successor of great Spanish pop-rock singers such as Luz Casal or Aurora Beltrán. And she does so filling her music, her concerts and the way she faces the profession with attitude and personality.” Arturo J. Paniagua (for “Resumen Cultural 2013” on RTVE.ES

The music of this Canadian band, a hybrid of garage, psychodelia, rockabilly surf and bluegrass, understands nothing of recycling. It beats each minute. It’s as flexible and versatile on the outside as it is compact on the inside. All this hasn’t just served to make them a favourite among boot and thin tie-clad followers, but also to make them a first choice to perform on the alternative country scene and its close relatives.
