Bartenders and restaurateurs from the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo will be able to participate in the North Galicia Contest, a previous stage to the Galician Championship that will take place in early 2019. On 22 October, La Galiciana in Santiago de Compostela will be the setting for this contest during which Estrella Galicia tests the skills of professionals when serving beer.
The high numbers of participants in previous editions has led Estrella Galicia to organize two contests in Galicia, prior to the Galician Championship where the 5 finalists of each will compete against each other.
Estrella Galicia has launched a new edition of the Galician Beer Pulling Championship with the aim of rewarding the skills of the region’s best beer servers. On this occasion, and due to high demand of participation, the brewery has organized two prior contests in the south and north of Galicia, from where the finalists of the Galician final in early 2019 will emerge.
The South Galicia contest was held on 5 July, in Vigo, where the first 5 finalists of the Galician Championship were chosen, and the North Galicia contest will take place on 22 October at La Galiciana in Santiago de Compostela.
A total of 20 aspirants will have the opportunity to show their beer serving skills in this North Galicia contest, and five of them will classify to take part in the Galician grand final. Bartenders representing businesses located in the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo can participate by registering before 12 October on the Estrella Galicia web page.
Following the success of previous editions, this sixth contest seeks to reward the professionalism and work of bartenders while serving beer, as an essential part of the distribution chain of Estrella Galicia products.
Jury and prizes
Made up by experts from the areas of beer serving, catering and gastronomy, the role of the jury is to evaluate the quality, efficiency and speed of the serve, as well as the aspirant’s knowledge about beer culture. It will also analyse and award points to the performance of each participant, using parameters like style, technique, and way of serving beer, the finish, creaminess and cleanliness, as well as presentation.
The five finalists will receive their weight in beer, and a cash prize of €300 for the winner, and €200 for the runner-up. There will also be three consolation prizes of €150 each. All the finalists will go straight through to the Galician championship through which they can also classify for the 2019 grand final.
