The intense work carried out by our winery Ponte da Boga in the areas of research and recovery of autochthonous varieties of grape, and its commitment to the production of very special wines, has been acknowledged by The Wine Advocate, a publication by Robert Parker of world-wide reference in the sector which has awarded 90 and 90 or more points to seven of the wines presented by this winery located in the Ribeira Sacra.
According to this publication, a wine with a mark of between 90 and 95 points can be defined as “an outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, a terrific wine”.
In the lead is Ponte da Boga Expresión Gótica 2012, which was awarded 92 points and is among the top twenty D.O. Ribeira Sacra wines that have the highest points.
“Expresión Gótica 2012 is a fragrant combination of complex and concentrated varieties (Mencía, Merenzao, Brancellao and Sousón), with strong but very pleasant tannins”. This is how the oenologist Dominique Roujou de Boubee describes this limited edition of wine which was conceived in 2012 to commemorate the 800 anniversary of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, paying homage to its architectural styles.
In addition to this, those wines with 90 points are: Ponte da Boga Albariño 2013, Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados 2011, Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao 2012, Ponte da Boga Godello 2013, Ponte da Boga Mencía 2012 and Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos 2012. Ponte da Boga Mencía 2013 closes this list with 88 points.
The new person responsible for the magazine in Spain, after his visit in October, has described the wines from Ribeira Sacra very positively. This supports the potential of this Galician winemaking region that produces, as this expert points out, “extraordinary or excellent wines.”
