For the second consecutive year, and as the grand finale of the 31st Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia, the Mercado de la Cosecha offered a great activity programme that attracted a large number of families, doubling the number of visitors to the previous edition.

Throughout the day there were a number of tastings, workshops and activities that were well attended by visitors.

The awareness-raising objective of the day was a great success, highlighting the value of the projects that are being carried out in the Galician countryside and of the quality of local produce with guarantee of origin.

Over 6,000 people discovered rural Galicia in the heart of A Coruña on Sunday, alongside our social commitment initiative, the Mercado de la Cosecha. For the second consecutive year, and as the grand finale to the 31st Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia, the Mercado de la Cosecha had a varied activity programme for the whole family that attracted both people from A Coruña and outside it to the Paseo de los Puentes, doubling the attendance of the last edition.

During the day, which started at midday, and finished past 9pm, the Mercado de la Cosecha held continuous tastings of Maeloc ciders, Cortes de Muar cheeses and the Celtic pork delicacies of Horta de Teodoro, among others.

The workshop area was a real hub of activity, welcoming hundreds of participants throughout the day thanks to activities such a “Con la comida también se juega” (“You can play with your food”), during which Daveiga showed the young participants how to make their own mini pizzas using their mariñeira biscuits: “Creación de ambientadores naturales” (“Making natural air fresheners”) and “Plantas aromáticas gallegas” (“Galician aromatic plants”), with Orballo; “Cosmética gallega” (“Galician cosmetics”), with Muulhoa; as well as other proposals such as “Elabora tu propio queso” (“Make your own cheese”), with the help of Arqueixal, or “Dibuja el rural” (“Draw the countryside”).

Just as popular were the activities organised by Ecocelta, Casa Grande de Xanceda, Gadis and R during which children learnt how to grow a kitchen garden, discovered the cheese-making process and even made their own biscuits amongst other activities, all accompanied by traditional games.

The special collectors tractors also attracted a lot of attention, which, thanks to Casa Vázquez, brought Galician farming heritage to the centre of the city.

All in all, the awareness-raising objective of the day was a great success, as over 6,000 people experienced the value of projects that are being carried out in rural Galicia and the quality of its products with guarantee of origin.

In the words of Marcos Pérez, Mercado de la Cosecha coordinator, “for the second consecutive year, public response to the initiative has been outstanding. The day has been a continuous hub of activity that highlights the great interest there is in discovering the projects carried out in the Galician countryside that make up the Mercado de la Cosecha”.
