Yolanda Gutiérrez knows that there is not a minute to lose when the objective is to reach the mark that could lead to her participation in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. On this journey each training session is measured to the millimetre for maximum benefit be it on asphalt, track or in the mountains, during the day or at night. Yolanda faces all possible situations to knock seconds off her own time and improve her pace during each of the 26 miles of the marathon.
Six months away from the Spanish Marathon Championship, the real test before the Olympics, the pace must be kept up. Yolanda, however, knows what it is to train hard as for years she combined athletics with her job as a social worker. That didn’t leave her much free time during the day, hence Yolanda took advantage of the nights to go out running on the city streets. A different way to train, as she says herself, that allows her to disconnect and concentrate on her objectives.
These last few days Yolanda is training specifically for the marathon in Soria, together with other fellow athletes. They spend many hours in the gym, go for long runs in the mountains, with river crossings included, and take all-important breaks with a refreshing Maeloc. She recounts her daily training sessions on Facebook and Twitter.
