Martín Galán, from Cafetería Cervantes in El Entrego, is the winner of the Grand Final of the IV Estrella Galicia Beer Pulling Championship, held this morning within the frame of the XXXI Salón de Gourmets, making him the Best Beer Puller in Spain.
This morning, at the Salón de Gourmets in Madrid, the last stage of the IV Campeonato de Tiraje de Cerveza Estrella Galicia (IV Estrella Galicia Beer Pulling Championship) took place within the framework of the Beer Master Beer Culture Programme. This contest has the aim of promoting beer culture and acknowledging the work carried out by barmen as a fundamental link in the distribution chain of Estrella Galicia products.
20 professional barmen from all over Spain had to demonstrate, in front of an expert jury, their skills, professionalism, and knowledge about serving our beer.
The champion of this fourth edition is Martín Galán, from the Cervecería Cervantes in El Entrego (Asturias), who beat his 19 rivals and walked away with the title of Best Beer Puller in Spain. Once the contest was over, Galán stated that the secret of a well-poured beer is to “do it with time and care – just because you have a large number of clients, it doesn’t mean that you have to rush, because if you rush, you won’t serve the beer correctly and you’ll spoil the taste”.
Martín Galán, who was given his prize (€1,500 and his weight in beer) by the Moto2 rider Álex Márquez, member of the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 and brand ambassador, assured us that the beer prize will be shared out “among colleagues, friends, family and clients”.
The runner-up is Pilar García, from Charlie Comedy in Béjar (Salamanca), who won €600 plus her weight in beer. Once the contest had finished, and when asked about what she was going to do with so much beer, she joked that she was going to drink almost all of it “except some, which I’ll share”. She added that she was so nervous during the theory part that she made a couple of mistakes, but the practical part was perfect, serving the draught beer with its corresponding three-centimetre head, and at the perfect temperature, according to the jury, as she did with the bottled beer.
