There aren’t enough adjectives to describe what Marc Marquez does, race after race, in the Moto GP World Championship. During the ninth race of the season, the GP in the United States, the Repsol rider has achieved his third victory this year, his second consecutive win, making him the first rookie to beat the difficult Laguna Seca track. His teammate, Dani Pedrosa, has known how to deal with the pain in his left collarbone, fractured in Germany last week, to finish in a well fought for fifth place.
Marc Marquez’s list of records has two new additions from today: to be the first rookie to win at Laguna Seca and the youngest rider to win two consecutive races in the premier class, once again ousting Freddie Spencer, who won in South Africa and France in 1983. All this thanks to a magnificent race, in which he brilliantly overtook Valentino Rossi at the trademark corner, the Corkscrew, on the fourth lap, and Stefan Bradl on the nineteenth, to cross the finish line first.
Dani Pedrosa’s race was more difficult. He started seventh, but gained a position off the line, and placed himself at the back wheel of Jorge Lorenzo, overtaking him on the twelfth lap. He was too late to reach Rossi and Bautista, who fought for the podium, but he could cross the finish line, exhausted although happy with the fifth position which allows him to continue in the race for the title. After today’s race the championship reaches the halfway mark, with Marquez and Pedrosa leading the competition, on 163 and 147 points respectively, and Lorenzo third, on 137.
