The harvest of the Maeloc cider that you will enjoy in 2015 is already underway. In September the apple harvest from up to 1,000 growers from all over Galicia began and, every day, hundreds of kilos of apples arrive at the factory of Customdrinks in Chantada (Lugo). There, they are weighed, cleaned and then sorted before going onto the next stage, in which they are cut and poured into the decanting tanks where the apple juice is filtered to begin the fermentation process which will finish between April and May 2015. That is when the new Maeloc cider will be bottled.
The Customdrinks company, belonging to the Corporación Hijos de Rivera, has backed ecological agriculture for years with the objective of making 100% ecological ciders from Galician cider apples . The Maeloc project aims to research and catalogue the different varieties of Galician apples as well as to innovate in the production of different types of cider, such as natural cider, sweet, dry or, for the first time in Spain, pear, blackcurrant or strawberry flavoured ciders.
