The concert calendar organised by the premium beer 1906 Reserva Especial continues with the performance of the drummer Iago Fernandez who will play in the sixth edition of the 1906 Jazz Season this week in three Galician cities, offering the audience the 1906 “small great moments”. The musician will be accompanied by André Fernandes (guitar), Demian Cabaud (double bass), Xan Campos (piano) and Zé Pedro Coelho (tenor saxophone) in these concerts which will take place in A Coruña, Vigo and Lugo.
The first performance by Iago Fernandez within the 1906 Jazz Season will take place this Thursday in Jazz Filloa (A Coruña). On Friday, the musician will play in Xancarajazz (Vigo), finishing his VI 1906 Jazz Season tour in Clavicémbalo (Lugo). The young drummer presents his first release, Agromando, combining classic jazz with touches of rock, as part of a quintet.
In this VI edition, the 1906 Jazz Season offers over 50 concerts in a 4 month period, in which 26 jazz artists will fill the most emblematic jazz venues in the country, such as Teatro Lara in Madrid and the Teatro Principal in Santiago de Compostela. Artists such as the master of the double bass Ron Carter, Arthur Kell, the Valencian Albert Sanz or the Mexican pianist Antonio Sánchez have already taken part in the Season this year.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Iago Fernandez is only a quarter of a century old, the first stage of life that for many flies by, but that in his case, is a period well taken advantage of. The Conservatorio de Cangas, the Seminario Permanente de Jazz of Pontevedra and the prestigious Musikene have all seen him grow as a musician, at a steady pace but in leaps and bounds. As a member of the group Mr Chacho, he was a finalist in the Getxo International Jazz Festival Competition in 2007. He has also participated in other festivals such as Madrid, Barcelona, Quito, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Donostia (San Sebastian) and Vigo. It’s not surprising, then, that a musician like Chris Kase would have enlisted him to collaborate on his latest project. However, the moment has arrived for him to demonstrate that not only does he stand out among a distinguished group of drummers, but that he has his own repertoire. Agromando (Freecode, 2011) is his first recording as a leader and composer. He demonstrates an eclectic taste, combining the mainstream with jazz-rock influences, in part due to the outstanding guitarrist, Andre Fernandes, and the odd experiment. The quintet he has formed is a further example of the fruitful relationship between the Spanish and Portuguese jazz scenes. We hope to be able to enjoy this enriching collaboration for many more editions of the 1906 Season.
