Our Granada water brand has started the production of all its formats with 100% recycled plastic (rPET), which will allow it to give a new lease of life to more than 43 million bottles and reduce the carbon footprint from the manufacturing process of these containers by 72% compared to 2019.
This move is added to the global strategy of generating positive impact, which has already been working in this line for months with the commercialization of Fontarel Zero Sodio in bottles of 100% recycled material, complying with the precepts of the circular economy.
As a sign of its commitment to the planet and its efforts to promote the circular economy, the Granada water brand Fontarel has announced that since the beginning of this year, 2022, all its bottles are made with 100% recycled plastic (rPET). The implementation of this type of format allows the brand to give new life to more than 43 million bottles, reducing the carbon footprint from the manufacturing process of these containers aby 72% nd will avoid the extraction of more than one thousand hundred tons of crude oil.
This achievement represents a new milestone within Fontarel’s carbon footprint reduction plan, which in recent years has promoted the use of renewable energies, has opted for the self-generation of electricity and adopted different measures to implement circular economy processes. All these efforts, in fact, materialized in the achievement of the certificate of carbon neutrality of the spring, endorsing its commitment to the climate fight and with the protection of the environment of the spring of El Pilar, located at the foot of the Sierra Gorda of Granada, from which flows a water of weak mineralization of high quality.
With the implementation of these formats, the brand takes a step further in its measures to promote circularity, a path started years ago that continues to advance. In July of this year it had already made significant progress with the launch of Fontarel Zero Sodio in 100% recycled plastic bottles, a determined impulse that is extended today to the packaging of the rest of the brand’s products, which processes more than 50 million litres each year.
“Fontarel’s commitment to innovation and well-being is not only reflected in the quality of its products, but also in its packaging. As part of our non-conformist spirit, we seek every day to improve the materials we use to package safely and sustainably, implementing processes that promote recycling and the circular economy,” says Álvaro García de Quevedo, Director of the Water Business of Hijos de Rivera.
The actions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and fighting the climate emergency, among which is adopting sustainable and circular materials, are part of the positive impact strategy of Corporación Hijos de Rivera and all its brands. It is a plan that unites the care of the planet and people, the protection of their origin and the joint work with their allies. The company underlines its commitment to continue looking for new solutions that allow promoting a key circular economy to protect the well-being of the planet and the people who inhabit it.
