The Estrella Galicia stage will be, for another year, at the musical centre of the Festival de Ortigueira, which gathers in its line-up the best Spanish and international representatives of Celtic music from Ireland, Brittany, Scotland and Asturias.
The countdown has begun for the Festival del Mundo Celta de Ortigueira, which this morning presented its thirty-third edition at our emblematic beer hall in Cuatro Caminos, in A Coruña.
Right from its beginning, in 1978, the Festival de Ortigueira has been an unmissable event for lovers of good music and a world-wide folk music reference, thanks to its support of artistic and cultural quality. This has led to it being considered an event of national and international tourist interest, which in turn has lead to the small town in the area of Ortegal welcoming over 70,000 visitors from around the world every year.
The free concerts are only a small part of the cultural experience that the Festival de Ortigueira has to offer, as its activity programme contains conferences, exhibitions, and craft fairs, among many other activities.
For yet another year, the Estrella Galicia stage will be a showcase for the best examples of Celtic music on an international level, strengthening its reputation with around 20 acts from Asturias, Brittany, Scotland, Galicia and Ireland.
Simultaneously, there will be many other activities for all the public. Such as the “Festival no Teatro” (“Festival in the Theatre”) season, with musical performances in the emblematic Teatro de la Beneficencia, the International Quartet contest, the biannual contest that seeks to find the best traditional quartets, the “Proxecto Runas”, a contest to find new talents in the world of folk music, bagpipe performances, and other musical events on the street, workshops, a craft fair, and cultural exhibitions.
