Fábrica de Cervezas Estrella Galicialaunches this Grape Ale beer that is on sale both online as well as from selected points of sale.
Estrella Galicia collaborates with Ponte da Boga, an example of heroic viticulture in the Ribeira Sacra, as part of this project in which master brewers and the oenologist have joined forces.
The moment to bid farewell to the year, and toast to a great 2020, has arrived. This year, Estrella Galicia is offering the chance, for the first time ever, to do so with a unique beer thanks to the Grape Ale 12 Uvasbeer, the new edition from our Fábrica de Cervezas Estrella Galiciaproject, made with 12 varieties of grapes from the Ribeira Sacra.
Hence, Estrella Galicia and the Ponte da Boga winery are collaborating on this project where these 12 varieties of white and red grapes, from the 2019 harvest by heroic wine growers from the Ribeira Sacra, are mixed with the traditional raw materials in beer. For the first time, the Galician terroirmaterialises in a beer bottle.
Rubén Pérez, Ponte da Boga oenologist, points out “we have carried out a selection of traditional Galician grapes from those we cultivate and that, in some cases, are the product of research and recovery of autochthonous varieties fostered by our winery”.
Luis Alvar, Estrella Galicia master brewer, wanted to highlight “the collaborative character of this beer in which we have been able to reflect the know-how and over a hundred years of tradition that Estrella Galicia and Ponte da Boga share in the beer and wine worlds respectively.”He adds, “it is a great honour to count on a raw material of this quality to present such innovative and ground -breaking proposals as our Grape Ale 12 Uvas”.
Approximately 400 kg destalked and crushed grapes have been used to create this ale. There are six varieties of red grape (Mencía, Merenzao, Brancellao, Sousón, Caiño and Espadeiro) and six of white grape (Godello, Albariño, Loureira, Treixadura, Torrontés and Blanco Lexítimo).
On this occasion, the variety of hop Hallertau Blanc, from Germany, has been used, with its characteristic fruity aromas. The end result is ale that brings out these fruity nuances. Grape Ale 12 Uvasalso has an elegant and pleasant effervescence that leaves a dry and bitter aftertaste. With regards to pairing, there is nothing better to accompany this beer than seafood and fish. A dozen oysters, a white fish such as monkfish, turbot or sole, and great company make Grape Ale 12 Uvasthe ideal beer to toast to and celebrate the end of the year.
Grape Ale 12 Uvas, a much-awaited beer
On 28 December 2017 the day of the “Santos Inocentes” (Spanish equivalent of April Fool’s Day), Estrella Galicia played a joke on social media announcing that they were going to launch a new limited edition made with grapes to welcome in the new year. The favourable response from followers led the company to seriously think about this launch that we are now presenting. The aim of the master brewers was to create a unique beer that would meet the demands of consumers, with which to toast one of the most special moments of the year.
Hence, we now present Fábrica de Cervezas Estrella Galicia Grape Ale 12 Uvas, the tenth edition of this project that joins the success of the previous editions: Pimientos de Padrón (Padrón Peppers), Percebes da Costa da Morte (Costa da Morte gooseneck barnacles), Calabaza y Vainilla (Pumpkin and Vanilla), Castaña (Chestnuts), Galician Irish Red La Pelirroja, Miel (Honey), la ahumada Bidueira (smoked beer), Naranja (Orange) and Galician India Pale Lager. All have been well received and have generated great expectation among consumers.
