Estrella Galicia was appointed Ambassador of Brands of Spain by the Leading Brands of Spain Forum. This recognition was awarded in an act presided over by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo, and the Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, in Miami on board the School Ship Juan Sebastion Elcano, as part of a range of activities carried out.
The ceremony was organised by the Friends of Marca España and Brands of Spain, an initiative promoted by the Leading Brands of Spain Forum and the Government of High Commission for Marca España. The event officially recognised those figures which stood out due to their relationship with Spain or its companies. Twelve leading brands with international experience were invited to represent Spain at the act, during which the award Friend of Marca España was presented by a distinguished representative of the company. Fumie Kitahori, Director of Rivera Europe, subsidiary company of the business group, handed the prize to Jose Abraham, the distributor who backed the company’s products in the USA when the company made its first appearance on the American market in the 90s.
It is the first time that the Friends of Marca España and of Spanish Brands in the USA have been accredited. The recognition of the Friends of Marca España in Florida has taken place during the 5th Centenary celebration of Juan Ponce de Leon’s discovery of the area which he himself named Florida. The arrival of the Spaniard on this peninsula marked the start of the USA’s modern history.
This prize-giving act was the perfect finale to a day that began with a Business Forum in which both Spanish companies, such as Estrella Galicia, and American companies analysed the potential business opportunities and bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
Leading Brands Forum
In 2010 Estrella Galicia became part of the Leading Brands Forum, an initiative which groups together the most important Spanish brands with the objective of acknowledging their reputation, to act as an interlocutor in dealing with Public Institutions and to develop favourable strategies so as to encourage their visibility and internationalisation.
The Forum’s Executive Committee decision to admit Estrella Galicia as a member of this exclusive organisation, to which only 100 Spanish brands belong, made it the first beer brand to be part of the group.
The main requisites that must be complied with in order to be admitted as a member of the Forum of Leading Brands are, besides being Spanish, to have an excellent reputation, high brand awareness, and have achieved significant internationalisation.
Established in 1999, the Forum is involved in developing a diverse number of activities such as proposals for government support measures to ensure the internationalisation of Spanish companies and brands, the participation in Icex (Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade) initiatives, or the promotion of educational and awareness programmes for its members.
