On Thursday the Leading Brands of Spain, along with the Office of the High Commissioner for Marca España, held the ceremony in recognition of the ‘Friends of the Marca España and of Spanish brands in Hong Kong’ which was attended by over 200 representatives from the Hong Kongese and Spanish business, diplomatic, academic and institutional worlds.
Some of the brands with the best reputations from our country, such as Estrella Galicia, Meliá, Freixenet, Lladró, Cosentino and Alimentaria, also participated in the event alongside the Government Commissioner for Marca España.
These awards aim to acknowledge foreign people and institutions who have contributed or significantly supported, in a specific country or area, the image of Spain and/or its renowned brands. This is the sixth time that these awards have been given out and the first time in Hong Kong, having been held previously in Shanghai, Moscow, London, Miami and Tokyo.
Peter Riha, from the company Solar Max, has been given the Friend of the Estrella Galicia brand award for his distribution and commercialisation work of its mineral water and beer brands carried out for years leading to their entry into the Asian market.
Among those who received awards are companies like Cathay Pacific, the Hong Kong Art Festival, the Hispanist Peter Gordon and the telecommunications giant Wharf T&T, all great supporters of relations with Spain.
The act was presided over by the Government High Commissioner for Marca España, Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, the Spanish Consul in Hong Kong, Santiago Martínez Caro, the president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, José Martino, and the general director of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum, Miguel Otero.
During the ceremony, attendees were able to enjoy a buffet that highlighted Spanish gastronomy, accompanied by Estrella Galicia beers and Freixenet wines and cavas.
