The Castelao Medal 2013 was awarded to Corporacion Hijos de Rivera yesterday by the Xunta de Galicia (Galician Regional Government), and presented by Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, the President of the Xunta. The medal is considered to be the highest award of its kind in Galicia, and since 1984 has been awarded in recognition of the achievements of Galician individuals or entities. Our CEO, Ignacio Rivera, accepted the award, alongside the other prizewinners who, this year, were Carlos Núñez, The Chieftains, Hilda Rodríguez, Úrsula Heinze and the Ruada Choral Society.
All the prizewinners attended the presentation ceremony, which took place in the San Domingos de Bonaval Convent, Santiago de Compostela, at 1pm. It was presided over by the President of the Xunta, Nuñez Feijoo, who highlighted the ability of those awarded a prize to carry the name of Galicia abroad and to act as ambassadors of the same culture which can only grow through dialogue.
In his speech, the President of the Xunta referred to Corporacion Hijos de Rivera as “Galicians with a global residence. Hijos de Rivera, pioneering with regards to the internationalisation of our economy, originating in Cuatro Caminos in A Coruña, and currently traversing, a thousand paths throughout the continents”.
