On May 25 we will take a closer look at the work of Boamistura, currently one of the most active artistic collectives.
The architect Javier Serrano, one of the five parts that makes up Boamistura, will travel on Thursday 25 May to A Coruña to take part in the cultural programme 12miradas::Riverside, commissioned by Carlos Quintáns and supported by Corporación Hijos de Rivera and Laboratorio Creativo Vilaseco.
We invite you to meet Javier, a fifth of the collective Boamistura, who will be at the Galería Vilaseco meeting the press on Thursday 25 along with Carlos Quintáns, from 4-6pm.
The collective Boamistura was formed in 2001. They define themselves as five heads, ten hands, and one heart. They live and work in Madrid, although they travel around the world non-stop, transforming streets and building relationships between people. Colour, words and perspective are the three important key elements in Boamistura’s work, and enough with which to transform multiple spaces in Latin American and Spanish cities.
The Portuguese expression «boa mistura», «a good mix » in English, makes reference to their very nature – a group made up of 5 members with different backgrounds and perspectives that are, however, harmoniously articulated. The group is made up of an architect, a publicist, a civil engineer, and two Fine Art graduates.

Their work, which is deeply rooted in graffiti, uses public spaces as support to vindicate urban spaces and art as a driving force for change. Good examples are «Luz nas vielas» (São Paulo, Brazil, 2012), «Al Karama» (La Blanche, Algiers, 2013), and «Sisi Ni Mashujaa» (Nairobi, Kenya, 2016), from their series of participative projects Crossroads.
They have been invited to exhibit their work at the Bienal de Arte de La Habana (Havana Art Biennial) in 2015, at the Biennale de Arquitectura de Venezia (Venice Architecture Biennial) in 2012, the Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (Iberoamerican Architecture and Urbanism Biennial) in 2013 and the Bienal del Sur (South America Biennal) in Panamá in 2013.
They have participated in exhibitions in art centres such as Museo Reina Sofía, Museo DA2, CAC Málaga and the Casa Encendida.
Their work is part of foundations such as Telefónica, Antonio Gala, Universidad de Alcalá, DKV insurance and Cris Cancer Foundation.
They have collaborated with different organisations and foundations such as ONCE, Oxfam, Action against Hunger, Greenpeace, and Red Cross, among others.
They have given conferences in TEDxMadrid and seminars about Art and social transformation at universities like the Complutense in Madrid, TEC in Monterrey, Menéndez Pelayo, Politécnica de Madrid and Seville Unversity. They have had teaching experience in workshops at the Isthmus University in Panamá, Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro in México and the ETSAM in Madrid. Currently, they collaborate closely with the Galería Ponce+Robles in Madrid.
12miradas::Riverside is a cultural sponsorship project supported by Corporación Hijos de Rivera through which we try to bring creativity and art to our lives, to our daily work and to the rest of society. It is carried out in two very different environments, an urban one, in A Coruña, and a rural one, in Ribeira Sacra. The proposal is based around two formats: exhibitions and talks from 12 creators in A Coruña and workshops in residency with 4 guest artists in Ribeira Sacra.
