The Daveiga “mariñeira” biscuits will offer tastings, talks, workshops and prize draws this week at the Mercado de la Cosecha store

The recovery of a traditional product like the mariñeira biscuits by Daveiga has led to a successful business project, in Chantada, which promotes responsible management models and which is part of the exemplary initiatives that make up the Mercado de la Cosecha, a social commitment project led by Corporación Hijos de Rivera, R and Gadis . As of Tuesday and until Sunday, Daveiga will be the protagonist of the store located in the very centre of A Coruña, which will open its doors to share this exemplary experience whose origins lie in the Galician countryside.

Daveiga will take part from August 26 to 31 at the Pop-Up Store organised by the Mercado de la Cosecha, in A Coruña. The store opening times are Tuesday to Sunday, 11am-2pm, and 6pm-10pm. During the days Daveiga will be at the Mercado de la Cosecha Pop-Up store, there will be a constant flow of activities, all of them open to the general public.

Every day, there will be a draw to win a selection of Mariñeiras biscuits to be held among all those clients who spend over €5.

In addition, on Thursday at 6.30 pm, there will be a talk and debate: “A ECONOMÍA SOCIAL COMO MODELO EFICIENTE, EFICAZ,  RENTABLE, VIABLE E ALTERNATIVO” (“Social Economy as an efficient, effective, profitable, viable and alternative model”)

and on Friday, also at 6.30pm, DAVEIGA will present:  “A PRODUCIÓN RESPONSABLE dende a perspectiva da Economía social”. (“ Responsible production from the perspective of Social Economy”)

There will also be space for children on the programme with the workshop called “COA COMIDA TAMÉN SE XOGA”, (“You can also play with food”) run by Martín Élvarez (Vilamarín Catering College- Ourense), to be held on Saturday 30 at 6.30pm.

In addition, there will also be daily tastings during store opening hours

Tuesday 26 August: Mariñeiras biscuits with Arzúa Ulloa ecologically produced cheese.

Wednesday 27 August: Mariñeiras biscuits with Galician Chestnuts

Thursday 28 August: Mariñeiras biscuits with a variety of Galician ecologically produced jams.

Friday 29 August: Mariñeiras biscuits with Cottage cheese from As Neves and Honey from Galicia.

Saturday 30 August from 12-2pm: Taster menu of Mariñeiras with nettles, turnip tops and oyster mushrooms from Galicia. Hosted by Martín Álvarez (Vilamarín Catering College-Ourense).

Sunday 31 August, all day: Mariñeiras biscuits with products from the Galician Rias.

Daveiga produces and sells Mariñeiras biscuits, a solution found by sailors in the fifteenth century as to make dry bread was the only way to preserve it naturally on long voyages.

What is the Mercado de la Cosecha pop-up store?

The Mercado de la CosechaPop-Up store is a project driven by Corporación Hijos de Rivera, Gadis and R whose main objective is to promote the socioeconomic development of Galicia and the sustainability of rural areas. A temporary concept remaining open only until the beginning of October, the shop will serve to spread and promote exemplary initiatives stemming from the countryside, transmitting their philosophy and most authentic flavour to the citizens.

Every week until the beginning of October, the store will change its image and protagonist. The store has already seen Cortes de Muar cheeses, Ecoceltaearthworm compost and the free-range eggs, and jams of Pazo de Vilane, the oils of Olei, and the games of Buxaina, all of them innovative initiatives that are worth sharing.

In the following weeks, the Mercado de la Cosecha store will be visited by Granxa Maruxa biscuits (2-7 September), Idoia Cuestabaskets (9-14 September),Arqueixalyoghurts (16-21 September), the apples from which Maeloccider is made (23-28 September) and the grapes used for our Ponte da Bogawines (30-5 October). The last week (7-12 October) will be a round-up of all the products.
